You are now a Seedling!

We are so excited to have you grow within our community garden.
The first step to earning your membership is to start attending our meetings. We hold them from March through October, every 2nd Monday, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. The meeting itself doesn't begin until 6:30 p.m, giving you time to ask some questions. If it isn't in the garden, a notice will be posted on the gate where it is.
When you attend, we ask that if you wish to participate, you should raise your hand to request a chance to speak. Your comments should remain on topic with the current question at hand; we follow an agenda. Voting will occur, but you will not have the power to vote. Please remain silent during voting.
We manage a garden budget to ensure that donated funds are utilized appropriately, in accordance with the reporting and accountability policies of our fiscal sponsor, the Manhattan Land Trust, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that owns the garden and 13 others.
To preserve the space and its history, we document and approve projects that may alter the space in significant and often irreversible ways. The decision is ultimately made by the vote of the membership. When a project is substantial enough, it is submitted to the Manhattan Land Trust for approval. For similar reasons, garden property cannot be thrown away without a careful vote. Sometimes these decisions can become controversial and are not as simple as the cost.
Events that require amplification need a government permit, so the date and details must be approved by the Manhattan Land Trust in advance, making it a matter for voting. There is also a significant risk of complaints if the music gets too loud. Other events are usually approved outside the general meeting.
We hope this sounds interesting to you! You will learn more throughout your membership process. If you haven't already done so, please fill out a Membership Application.
